December 28th was Innocent’s Day, the Spanish equivalent of April Fools Day, and as part of the fun Motociclismo reported that Valentino Rossi and Dani Pedrosa were moving to Suzuki in 2017. Although it was just another joke on a day full of pranks, it isn’t such a crazy idea on reflection. It could suit both riders who can’t consistently beat their current teammates and it could give Suzuki a great chance of success on and off the track. They could theoretically build a team on the back of the sponsorship and engineering talent initially attracted by Rossi (sell a heap of expensive production bikes with ‘VR46’ on the side) and then set up Pedrosa for success in the longer term. It won’t happen but it’s an ‘Innocent’s Day’ joke that could actually make a bit of sense.
