The 2016 BTCC title went down to the wire between 8 drivers

The British Touring Car Championship uses success ballast and reverse grids to ensure close racing, and the end result is that EIGHT DRIVERS entered the final round of the season with a shot at winning the championship. You could suggest the title fight would’ve been more intense if it was focussed on just 2 or 3 drivers but at least it went down to the final laps. Gordon Shedden emerged victorious as two podiums and a 5th place sealed the championship from Sam Tordoff by two points.
