Pawi is so far ahead of his Moto3 rivals in the rain it’s staggering

Khairul Idham Pawi’s best result in dry conditions is only 14th but he has utterly dominated both wet races this season. On Sunday he went from 20th to 1st in just 4 laps and then pulled out a 15 second lead before backing off to guarantee victory. Some riders will always be faster than others in the rain, but Pawi’s advantage is monumental.

F4: Mick Schumacher is racking up race victories

Mick Schumacher, son of Michael, is a front-runner in the Italian & German Formula 4 championships this year. The 17 year old now has 6 wins to his name, and although some of those came from reverse grid races or qualifying heats, there was nothing lucky about his most recent win at Imola from pole position in the rain. Mick will have no problems finding a seat in the faster categories thanks to his surname, but it’s important that he continues to earn legitimate success so that he ends up more like his father and less like Uncle Ralf.

There were two cool things about Newgarden’s Iowa IndyCar victory

1. Joseph Newgarden led the race for a massive 282 laps – an all time IndyCar record.
2. He did so whilst recovering from a broken wrist and shoulder he sustained just 4 weeks ago.

F1: Williams nailed a 1.92 second pitstop

Impressively, the Williams F1 team set the fastest pitstop time at all of the first nine Grands Prix this season. This clip captures their best effort – a ridiculously quick 1.92 second stop at Baku!

F1: Austria could’ve been much worse for Mercedes

It’s not often that teammates crash into each other whilst fighting for the lead on the last lap, and although Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton did exactly that in the Austrian Grand Prix, it’s hard to go past this effort by Matt Neal who took his Honda teammate off on the LAST CORNER of a BTCC race in 2011.

The final race of the Formula E season produced brilliant drama

  • The title contenders, Lucas Di Grassi and Sebastien Buemi, were tied on points in a perfect winner-takes-all scenario. Incredibly, they crashed on lap 1 in a championship defining moment.
  • Formula E offers bonus points for fastest laps which meant both drivers returned to the pits, got into their second cars, and treated the race like a qualifying session. Their laptimes, not their finishing positions, would then decide the championship winner.
  • Buemi did enough to win the Formula E title having lost it by a single point in the final race last year. It would’ve been cruel had that happened to him again.

Another last corner fight for victory in NASCAR

NASCAR has produced some mighty close finishes this year – the most recent coming last weekend during the road race at Sonoma. Tony Stewart & Denny Hamlin swapped paintwork on the final lap and their fight for victory wasn’t over until Stewart forced his way past through the last corner.

MotoGP: Jack Miller would’ve enjoyed beating Marc Marquez

Aussie Jack Miller has scored his first MotoGP victory and would’ve taken extra delight at overtaking Marc Marquez for the win. In 2014, Miller was caught in a bitter Moto3 rivalry with Marc’s younger brother, Alex, and said “the Marquez family, they like to think that they are the bosses and they try to make you their, um I won’t say it, lower companion… we’ll try to take the fight to them”.

Antonio Giovinazzi did something quite special in GP2

The reverse grid rules in GP2 make it incredibly difficult to win two races on the same weekend, but Antonio Giovinazzi became the first driver since 2012 to manage exactly that in Azerbaijan. Not only did the rookie win both races, but he had to fight back from 20th after a chaotic start on the Sunday. Beating his Red Bull sponsored teammate is a good way to get noticed.
